Collection: Peony Bare Roots

All Peonies in this collection are a 3/5 eye bare root, except where noted. We will begin shipping Peony roots in mid October

Planting Peonies from bare root is the ideal way to get Peonies established. Roots are often planted in the fall, as late as the soil can be worked. The eyes, or growing points of the Peony should be positioned approximately 1.5" below the soil line. Peony roots can also be planted in the spring, though growers should take care to provide regular irrigation in their first growing season as the plant is establishing.

Peonies prefer well draining soil, and perform best in 6+ hours of full sun daily.

Peonies take 2-3 years to mature, and may only produce one flower on their first spring. The plants are significantly larger the second year, and by the third year may have 15-20 blooms per plant. Peonies are a long lived perennial that require very little care. Cut back the foliage to the ground every fall to prepare for spring growth.
